Making Progress on Attainment Interventions What Works?

This session will consider evidence from the University of Southampton’s ‘Ignite Your Success’ programme and examine key learning points for improving outcomes for students from backgrounds currently under-represented at Southampton.

  • Determining evidence routes that will support outcomes for priority student groups

  • Developing a ‘pilot’ culture and using continuous feedback to develop and refine programmes

  • Prioritising paid student leadership opportunities to upskill, boost attainment and provide a student-centred approach

  • Using learner analytics to closely monitor attainment, and other indicators of withdrawal and suspension

  • Assessing the evaluation process through an enhanced Theory of Change to both identify what works and demonstrate rigour

  • Using analysis to draw conclusions on causality of interventions and stated objectives
