A Whole University Approach to Generative AI 2024

Thursday 21st March 2024
09:30am - 3:20pm
Virtual Conference

This conference will explore how universities can develop an institution-wide approach to generative artificial intelligence (AI). It will examine the next steps in designing clear expectations and guidelines and constructing a whole-community view on equity, ethics and usage of AI.

This implementation-led event will assess how to enhance AI literacy amongst the HE workforce, how to harness AI to drive improved student outcomes and what it takes to support a continuous path to organisational learning to emerge as an AI-mature institution.

This event will also feature an interactive AI Literacy Accelerator Workshop designed for all HE teams.

Objectives

  • Examine insights on how to develop university-wide guidelines and standards on AI

  • Assess how your institution can harness AI to enhance student outcomes

  • Explore practical tools for advancing the AI literacy of your staff

  • Evaluate your institution’s path to AI maturity through organisational learning and planning

Putting Educators in the Driver’s Seat of AI: Equity, Steerability and Visibility – A Case Study from the University of Sydney

How can an institution develop a university-wide approach when it is difficult to control usage and output of generative AI?

This case study from the University of Sydney will explore an innovative approach to the design and development of an AI platform that guides AI tools to meet institutional expectations. The session will consider how to:

  • Ground AI responses in contextualised resources from academics or the institution, reducing hallucination and improving relevance

  • Develop greater control of how AI platforms can be steered to benefit staff and students

  • Embed pedagogically meaningful approaches into interactions with AI

  • Develop an institution-wide ability to monitor usage, enhance visibility, and improve the quality of responses
