Webinar: Curriculum, Culture and Community - A Foundational Framework to Reduce the Awarding Gap at the University of Southampton

In this panel discussion, Chido Chipato (Student Success & Inclusion Coordinator, University of Southampton) is joined by three students from University of Southampton who are presently panellists working on the Awarding Gap project within the institution. This co-creation initiative, initially set up in 2021/22, was designed to address the awarding gap between black and white students at the university, which has the highest outcome disparity. In this session, Chido and the students outline the beginnings of the project and how it has developed. They also explore the framework they have developed – The Three C’s – which was established to understand the different areas in which enhancements could be made to tackle the awarding gap: Curriculum, Culture and Community. Finally, they discuss their vision for this ongoing project and the potential introduction of a fourth C – Communication – in future endeavours.

This session offers essential insight for higher education professionals working on access and inclusion and student co-production projects within their universities.
